Peter and Georgia Piliotis
Growing up in the olive tree adorned hills of the fishing town of Pylos near Kalamata, my mother gave me the nickname "tzanabeti" or in other words picky. There was never a meal to be had where I didn't complain about something because I knew what I liked and I wouldn't settle for anything less.
Visions of a more fruitful future brought me to Toronto, Canada in 1967. Destiny brought my wife, Georgia, from the same olive grove backdrop; we fell in love and married in 1974. Shortly after our first was born, we picked up our young family and moved from Toronto. Our new adventure brought us to a rapidly developing Vancouver where we settled in Coquitlam, and our second was born.
Unlike many greek restauranteurs, I got my start in woodwork and interior design. I designed and built many of Vancouver's most well known Greek restaurants. Ultimately however, my dream was to some day open a restaurant of my own. I saw the restaurant industry as more than a means to pay my bills; as a picky eater, I knew it was my calling.
My dream became reality when, together with my family, we opened Kefi's doors in July of 2004. We received our first recognition in “The Vancouver Sun” in 2007 and since then, the accolades keep coming in. The warm reception from the community has been overwhelming; and we couldn't be happier or more grateful with the support our clientele has given us.
Alex Ventouras
Born and raised in Richmond, BC, I have enjoyed cooking since I was five years old when I cooked my first egg. It was a love for food that drove my love for cooking. I obtained a diploma in sales and marketing from BCIT and after several successful years in the industry, I knew that something was missing. I remembered about my passion for good food when the opportunity came up to join the restaurant business with my father in-law. I love good food and Kefi certainly had that going for it! It was a risky adventure, working with my in-laws, but I’ve been with Kefi since 2006 and never regretted it. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours, you really have to love it to be in this business.
